Counterfeit or fake checks are being used in many of today’s fraudulent schemes. Foreign lottery, secret shopper, internet auction and check over payment scams all use official sounding letters to convince someone they’ve won money.
If you receive such a letter, along with a check from an unknown source, be wary. It may very well be a scam designed to separate you from your money. For more information on these and other types of scams, please go to the Federal Trade Commission website at www.ftc.gov.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
